I heard the title at the begining of the movie, and i knew nothing about this woman. In the end, the title was repeated, and i now get it, at least i think i did.
It's another movie about a powerful woman's love story, Sorry, apologize for my femine interpretation of this great movie about a great character in the history. I should have paid more attention to the war with German and the court politics, but i can only see it's a love story of a woman. And i have to say the last relationship impressed me the most.
A woman of great intelligence, stronge desire and good appearance deserves numerous relationships. Most of the books about her put a lot of emphasis on her personal affairs, and shamefully put the reason of her death to a "sexual activity with a horse"!!? Man, can't you be more creative when trying to undermine a great woman?? Of course, if by saying so, you are agreeing that your phsycal status is not as stronge as a horse to meet her requeset, i have no objection. You can't ask a woman to keep her virginity for a weak man. And for a woman young and energetic, like Tiger Woods, that requirement is even meaningless. Here i want to give my two hands to her colorful personal life. Good job, gal!
But when she met Potemkin, she literally fell in love. When she quote the poem when in bed with him, "I think i'm in love now." Man, i was like striken by the lighening bolt. You might have married three times and slept with more than 10 guys. But when love came, all those became meaningless. Or the reason they existed is to help you see the truth. It's not just physical pleasure or delightful conversation. It's a perfect combination of both. It's not easy to find someone like that. And as great as Katherine, she waited till 43 to meet her soul mate. And sadly, it's not an happily ever after story either. Being a Queen, i guess you can't have all you wanted. But as long as you had it once in your life, you can go on with your journey of traveling from one man to another.
PS: a sweet little observation, the prior queen also had a "King of the night". And he accompanied her till her last breath. Is it a bless? Should the stronge woman always go with a good tempered shadow? I don't know. One thing certain about life is, it goes on. So keep trying, baby.
